Rebalancing the Chinese Economy: What Will the 15th Five-Year Plan Do for China (and the World)?

On 23 June 2026, the Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC), as co-organiser together with the Asia School of Business and with the sponsorship of Bank of China, hosted a public lecture under the Malaysia-China Distinguished Economists Programme titled “Rebalancing the Chinese Economy: What Will the 15th Five-Year Plan Do for China (and the World)?” The session brought together policymakers, academics and the business community to examine the direction of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and its implications for Malaysia and the wider region.

The programme was graced by YB Tuan Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Finance, and featured a keynote lecture by Professor Lu Ming, Distinguished Professor of Economics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, moderated by Professor Joseph Cherian, President and Dean of the Asia School of Business. MCBC was represented by its Executive Director & Chief Executive, Dato’ Tan Tian Meng, underscoring the Council’s commitment to fostering informed, high-level economic dialogue between Malaysia and China.
