Xiamen University President Hu Wenping Leads Delegation to Visit Malaysia-China Business Council, Deepening Exchanges on Educational and Economic Cooperation

Today, Xiamen University President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Hu Wenping led a delegation to visit the Malaysia-China Business Council, and held a meeting and exchange with the Council Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Low Kian Chuan, Senator, and the Council directors. This visit aimed to further strengthen communication and contact, and to carry out in-depth exchanges around the direction of deepening cooperation between Malaysia and China in the fields of higher education, talent cultivation, and economic and trade cooperation. During the visit, Tan Sri Dato’ Low Kian Chuan, together with several directors of the Malaysia-China Business Council, jointly received the Xiamen University delegation. The Council representatives attending the meeting included: Dato’ Beh Hang Kong, Dato’ Ir Fong Tian Yong, Dato’ Kuok Meng Xiong, Teoh Kok Lin, Lee Chor Kok, as well as Chief Operating Officer Georgie Too

The members of the Xiamen University delegation included: Wang Ruifang, President of Xiamen University Malaysia; Jiang Yunbao, Dean of China-Malaysia Institute of Higher Education of Xiamen University and former Vice President; Zhang Ying, Vice President of Xiamen University Malaysia; Wang Cheng, Director of the Academic Affairs Office; Zhong Wei, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and Director of the Overseas Campus Affairs Office; Zhao Xiaohui, Secretary-General of the Xiamen University Education Development Foundation; and Ding Yu, Director of the Office of Xiamen University Malaysia.

In the talks, the two sides reviewed the preparation and development course of Xiamen University Malaysia, and unanimously agreed that its successful establishment and steady development originate from the long-term collaboration and joint efforts of multiple parties. The Malaysia-China Business Council, as one of the important initiating organisation promoting Xiamen University to establish a branch university in Malaysia, actively played a bridge and coordination role, linked the wide support of the Malaysian business community and the local Chinese society, and under the strong support of the governments of the two countries of Malaysia and China, promoted the smooth establishment of Xiamen University Malaysia. Today, the school has developed into a higher education institution with a good international reputation, attracting more than 10,000 students from Malaysia, China, and over 50 countries and regions worldwide to study, becoming one of the landmark achievements of Malaysia-China higher education cooperation.

The two sides also conducted exchanges on the deep and intertwined historical origins between Xiamen University, Malaysia, and China, believing that this humanistic bond spanning history and eras not only witnessed the continuation and deepening of the friendly relations between Malaysia and China, but also provided a solid foundation for the two sides to continuously expand cooperation in the fields of education, humanities, and economy and trade.

On this basis, the two sides exchanged opinions on future cooperation directions, and expressed the hope that the Malaysia-China Business Council and Xiamen University will further strengthen collaboration on the basis of the existing good cooperation, continuously promote the deep integration of industry and academy, promote the docking of scientific research achievements and industry needs, and create more pragmatic cooperation platforms for enterprise development and high-level talent cultivation.

In addition, combining with the times background of the rapid development of artificial intelligence, Xiamen University expressed its intention to explore cooperation opportunities in artificial intelligence and related frontier fields with relevant Malaysian institutions and industries, to assist in talent upgrading and industry capacity enhancement through joint cultivation, skill improvement, and knowledge transformation, injecting new momentum into the high-quality economic development of Malaysia and China.

The Malaysia-China Business Council and Xiamen University have maintained a good interaction and cooperation relationship for a long time. This meeting further consolidated the friendly connection between the two sides, and also laid a solid foundation for promoting Malaysia-China education and economic and trade cooperation to move towards a higher level.
