Dr. Hew Kuan Yau appointed as CEO of MCBC effective 1 Feb 2019

30.1.2019: The Chairman of Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC) YB Tan Kok Wai announced the appointment of Dr Hew Kuan Yau as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Council, effective from 1st Feb 2019.

Tan, who is also the Malaysian Special Envoy to China, said in a statement today that the MCBC, a government link organization is the counterpart of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) .

According to Tan, the appointment of Dr Hew as CEO is to further promote the businesses of the Council, strengthening the business cooperation between Malaysia and China in order to benefit the economic development of the country.

Tan also added that Dr. Hew is an expert on China given his decade-long business management experience in China. He studied in Guangzhou and Hong Kong and has a PhD in History from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In addition, Dr Hew is a competent candidate for the position with a good grasp and understanding of international diplomacy in view of his experience and engagement with the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY).

The establishment of MCBC dates back to 2002 when the China-Malaysia Joint Business Council (JBC) was set up by the CCPIT and a Malaysian entity which was witnessed by then Prime Minister, YAB Tun Mahathir and the Visiting Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, HE Hu Jintao.

MCBC was subsequently incorporated formally to strengthen the close relationship between Malaysia and China by promoting better understanding and closer coordination among enterprises and individuals for the overall benefit of the business communities of both nations.

MCBC provides business information and advisory services to Malaysian entrepreneurs in China as well as Chinese entrepreneurs in Malaysia. It plays an important role in helping to identify issues and problems faced by the business community in order to find solutions acceptable to all parties. MCBC also provides business information and help to explore opportunities for its members while helping Chinese investors to better understand Malaysia’s conducive business environment and investment potential.
